US Government Protects Mexican Drug Cartels
61The question of the day is "Why does a grown adult who pays taxes and fights and dies for his/her country need the Government telling them what to do in the privacy of their own home?"
In our homes, the homes we pay taxes on, we should be able to do anything we want so long as another is not hurt in doing so. This is one of the reasons I did not throw a large fit over the restaurant smoking bans.
I can understand why we may want to ban smoking in public places, as it hurts those that chose not to smoke. What I don't understand is why our Government wants to ban smoking pot from an adult smoking it in their own home. I grew up with an alcoholic father and then married an alcoholic man. Although now divorced, I cannot understand why alcohol, which could endanger someone in their own home, is legal and pot is illegal.
I do not smoke pot now, but I went
to college and I know what people are like when they are high. They are
generally mellow, happy, polite, and calm. I have never seen anyone in a fight or even raising their voice when smoking marijuana, unless of course if they are having a giggling fit. Whereas I endured yelling and fighting everyday when I lived with my alcoholic ex-husband. When someone drinks they often
become aggressive, mean, and even violent. Pot does not have these effects on people.
However, Alcohol should be legal as with pot. Why? Because a grown adult should be able to make that decision
for themselves, without an unethical politician dictating to him or her about
how they should live. Not everyone that drinks are alcoholics, and not everyone that smokes pot are "pot-heads." We cannot create laws that take away American Citizens rights just because there are a few people who act like idiots when they drink alcohol or smoke the Ganja.
Pot or anything else you want to do in the privacy of your own home (the home you pay taxes on) should be allowed. Why is it the Government's business? If it does not hurt anyone else but you, then you should be able to freely do it without some Politician becoming your judge and Juror. I mean really… why would we want these immoral politicians passing judgment on us anyway? Maybe they are the ones that have been smoking the ganja as they cannot see past the marijuana leaves to see how this could benefit our country.
Did you know that 75% of Americans have smoked pot before? Did you know that we spend a TON of money housing pot smokers in prisons - $40,000 a year per inmate (on average). Did you know that if our farmers were able to sell pot that it would completely pay for health care? Did you know smoking pot alleviates pain, nausea, and mental distress in a much less harmful ways than Oxicodone, Alcohol, or other Man Manufactured crutches?
Why aren't our politicians more interested? Why all of the resistance?
The main argument against legalizing
pot is that it will increase violence from Mexico. In my opinion, that is the most ignorant
and manipulative argument I have heard. It tries to scare us into supporting
the current laws and being good little lemmings. The argument they give holds
no water. I mean think about it, if we sold our own Marijuana, we would have no
need to deal with the Drug Cartels of Mexico. They wouldn't be paid anymore, and they wouldn't be sneaking their product over the border anymore... There would be no more consumers for them to sell to. The Drug Cartels would be out of large amount of
money, many would be forced into different lines of work. They would be out of a
job or serving us coffee when we visit the local Mexico Circle K.
Hmmm.... That makes me think and it
makes me a bit paranoid. Why would this bother our Politicians at all. Wouldn't
putting the Drug Cartels out of work be a good thing? Wouldn't that make our
Country safer? It makes me think that maybe it is not our country that our
Politicians are protecting after all. It makes me think that our Politicians believe the Drug Cartels have more right to be safe and sell goods than the American People... and if that is the case, well that's just wrong.

After reading this hub I started my own...preparing a list of rules for the governors...but as I reflect on your above comment on futility...I am reminded of another truth I recently discovered...The Power of Imagination. I believe this may hold the key Kass. As we talk about all this crap we can't help but imagine it...and that makes it stronger. If instead we imagine the world the way we want it...it WILL start to become that way... It has also been scientifically proven that one person's imagination can affect another's. So I think that eventually (maybe say around Dec 23 2012) there will be enough people like you and me envisioning the world the way it should be and all of the sudden one of those nasty cartel-running SOB's will snap out of it and instigate the collapse of the whole thing! This is what I prefer to imagine.

To which I reply:
Kinda sucks to discover you've been lied to since childhood doesn't it? A little research online will convince one that MJ is illegal not to protect us stupid citizens from harming ourselves but because of the SHYTLOAD of money that greedy men make from its illegality and/or the SHYTLOAD of money they stand to lose if it was legal.
Key players in the medical, pharmaceutical, textile, oil, and food industries would lose very much of their piles of gold if pot was legal...and since these industries effectively control our governments/lawmakers...expect no laws to change anytime soon.
